I
The following bids were received:
Bidders
Manufacturer
H. L. Parkman American Rubber Hose
American Rubber Co. American Rubber Hose
Western Fire Quaker Pioneer Hose
Total cost for 2000 feet — $2636.00.
13
Location Price Terms
Oakland $1.28 ft. 2% 10th prox.
Oakland 1.28 ft.2f 30 days
Philadelpl-fa 1.28 ft. 2% 30 days
I wish to recommend the profuct of H. L. Parkman of American Rubber Company over the
Western Fine, Quaker Pioner, be accepted for the following reasons:
1. American Ruber Hose is flat -cured as opposed to circular mold. The
flate cure packs and loads into the fire apparatus much better which
means that more hose can be carried.
2. American Rubber tube is much smoother and does not have the pack -marks
and depressions that exist in the Quaker Pioneer tube. The rough tube
causes a higher friction loss during pumping operation.
3. The mildew -proofing is more uniform in the American Rubber and all of
the cotton is penetrated. The quaker Pioneer hose appears to'be only
surface mildew proofing and lacks penetration, where the actual mildew
may occur which is the inner jacket.
The budget appropriation for this how was $2400.00. The total bid was for $b2636.00,
therefore an appropriation of $236.00 should be transferred into the capital of the
Fire Department to make up the difference.
Respectfully,
J. L. Lodi, Chief
Councilman Granger moved that this matter be referred back to the City Manager and he
be authorized to purchase the hose from either H. L. Parkman or American Rubber Company
and to determine it in any manner he feels fair, seconded by Councilman Stout and
carried.
INTRODUCE ORDINANCE REZONE AREA BETWEEN THE SOUTHERLY LINE OF BREWSTER AVENUE AND BOUNDED BY
WARREN STREET, BRADFORD STREET, MIDDLEFIELD ROAD AND THE PULGAS LINE, FROM R-4 TO C -1 -H -F.
Councilman Jones offered introduction of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and
carried. Councilman Jones then offered introduction of ordinance putting this property
in Fire Zone No. 1, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried.
INTRODUCE ORDINANCE REZONING LOTS 4, 5 & 6, VALOTA PARK, FROM R-1 TO R-2. Councilman Royer
offered introduction of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried on roll
call.
AUTHORIZE CITY CLERK ACCEPT DEED FOR WATER AND SEWER EASEMENT FOR .001 ACRES MORE OR LESS ON
A PORTION OF LOT 47, GRAY TRACT. Councilman Spillers moved authorization, seconded by
Councilman Britschgi-and carried.
PROGRESS ESTIMATE NO. 11 0. C. JONES & SONS, PARKING DISTRICT NO. L, $$2,365.65. Councilman
Britschgi moved approval of payment, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried.
RESOLUTION CALLING FORBIDS ON SECOND SALE OF BONDS, PARKING DISTRICT NO. L, $750.00. City
Attorney Currie stated that if the Council wants to proceed now they should advertise
for the full amount rather than a part of the money. They may not need the money
immediately but there is a decided advantage in selling the full amount. (Councilman
Spillers offered RESOLUTION 1955 CALLING FOR BIDS ON THE SECOND SALE OF BONDS, PARKING
DISTRICT NO. 1, IN THE AMOUNT OF $750,000 and moved its adoption, seconded by Council-
man Jones and carried on roll call.
PROGRESS ESTIMATE NO. 5, CARL N. SWENSON COMPANY, INC., PARKING DISTRICT NO. L, `4,592.98.
s
City Engineer stated that this was the full amount except for the usual 10% retention.
Councilman Spillers moved approval of the payment, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and
carried.
PLAPi:4IHG COlvitiISSION RECOMAENDED APPROVAL PETE ORDAZZA FOR RESUBDIVISION OF LOT 6, BLOCK 27,
