<br />Minutes of the Regular Adjourned Meeting
<br />Redwood City Council
<br />June 25, 1956 8:00 P. M.
<br />Invocation was lead by Reverend Lester Westling of St. Peters Episcopal Church.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Carl A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D.
<br />Herkner, Robert V. Spillers, Hiram S. Stout, Louis Weiss, Mayor William H. Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge.
<br />Also present were City Manager E. -A. Rolison, City Attorney C. B. Currie, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Fire
<br />Chief J. L. Lodi, Tax Collector Paul E. Perrin, Street Maintenance Superintendent Doyle Chester, Planning
<br />Commi.ssioner.Leonard Greenwold, Assessor—Auditor John J. Brophy, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter,
<br />Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, Police Chief William Faulstich, Police Captain Theodore Moudakas, Assistant
<br />i®I to City Manager L. A. Kimball, Fire Marshal George,Asvos and Account Clerk Vivian Holmquist.
<br />�® INDUSTRIAL WAY BIDS, RELEASE CERTIFIED CHECKS TO UNSECCESSFUL BIDDERS. The City Attorney stated that both
<br />acquisition and contract cost have increased, to x$359000.00 The Council can either reassess everyone or they
<br />can contribute money to the project. Councilman Granger offered RESOLUTION 2049 AWARDING THE BID FOR
<br />INDUSTRIAL WAY IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LON BIDDER, OSCAR C. HOLMES) INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF 9$98,213.50 and
<br />moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Spillers. Councilman Granger stated that he offered this motion
<br />e
<br />because it is in the best interest of Redwood City to have this street go through. The motion carried on
<br />roll call.
<br />Councilman Britschgi moved to reject all the other bids and return the unsuccessful bidders deposits,
<br />seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. City Attorney Currie asked permission to proceed with the
<br />acquisition. Councilman Spillers, moved that the City Engineer be authorized to proceed with negotiations

<br />with the State for the ;$30;000 in the gas tax fund, seconded by Councilman Granger. This was followed by
<br />;f discussion in regard to acquistion costs, precautionary action regarding the $30,000 set aside in the gas
<br />ly�tax fund and availibility of the additional 9$5,000. The motion carried.
<br />WEED ABATEMENT COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION REGARDING SPREAD OF COST FOR SPRAYING POISON OAK ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.
<br />It was the unanimous opinion of the. Committee that the City should not pay for the cost of spraying poison
<br />oak on private property. The following recommendations resulting from the meeting are submitted for the
<br />Council's consideration:
<br />1. That the City only assumes the cost of spraying on City owned property, which is
<br />a very small portion of the area affected.
<br />2. That property owners assume the cost of spraying on private property where poison
<br />ask is found. (Mr. Throckmorton stated that the maximum cost should not exceed 9$20
<br />per 100 linear feet.) >
<br />3. That when the Weed Abatement Resolution is adopted for the coming fiscal year,
<br />there be included in said Weed Abatement Resolution a provision for the elimination
<br />of noxious and dangerous weeds, which would include poison oak.
<br />The cost of this would then be apread in the same manner as is now being done with the abatement of weed,
<br />r- payment being made by the owner of the property benefited. Councilman Britschgi moved approval of the
<br />report, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.
<br />CITE' MANAGER REPORT REGARDING PROPOSED FENCING UNION CEMETE, RY. The City Managert s, report stated that he had
<br />reviewed his files and found that on May 24, 1955, the Purchasing Department mailed two sets of plans
<br />and specifications, together with cost estimate for erecting 2519 linear feet of chain link fencing for
<br />r
<br />Union. Cemetery, to the Chief of the Division of Buildings and Grounds -at Sacramento. He was informed that,
<br />while both Mr. Justin Child, Chief of the Division of Buildings and Grounds, and Mr. Jerry Olrich, State
<br />Gardener, recommended that the amount of our estimate, which was the sum of 9$5s48h.092 be appropriated for
<br />this purpose, that the State Legislature has denied this request. Councilman Granger moved that this be
<br />carried on the agenda for thirty days, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Councilman Granger stated that
<br />he based his motion on the fact that the Cemetery Association agrees with this. Motion Carried.
