Recommend abandonment and blocking off. The
Clerk read the letter which reads as follows:
"Gentlemen:
At our most recent meeting, a resident of Redwood City appeared to complain of
the condition of the small triangular park situated in the center of the block bounded'
by Anamor, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Connecticut & Hampton. It was also stated that
young people loiter about the area and have been damaging private property bordering
said park. This is one of thepieces of land which we have not developed because
of the uneconomical maintenance and supervision required. Also, about a a block
away on Anamor, there is another of these central areas which is well kept up and
used.
With the concurrence of the Park Superintendent, our group voted to abandon this
area as a park and to block off the entrances, if this action meets with the
approval of you council and the city attorney, fire and pol;ce departments. We
realize that there are legal complications if this area was dedicated as a park
on the recorded maps and so accepted by the City, and -if there are various types of
easements and rights of way involved.
Subject to the clearance of the various legal and other problems, we recommend the
abandonment and blocking off of this area.
Sincerely yours,
Gerry Verssen, Chairman, Park & Recreation Commission
Councilman Granger moved to refer this to the City Attorney for checking and legality, seconded by
Councilman Weiss. City Engineer Jain asked if he could also check into this matter. The City
Attorney was asked to report back in two weeks. Motion carried.
1
PARK AND RECREATION CQRAISSION APPROVE PLANS, MAPS, ETC. OF STULSAFT PARK. The work of the firm of Murphy
& Hastings in this matter deserves special commendation and thanks, and we hop that some
part of the work to be done in actual park development will be done by the firm.
We are looking forward to the Council's adtion in this improtant matter and will be
glad to be of any further assistance required.
Councilman Weiss moved that the matter be -taken up for a study meeting by the Council. This was
followed by discussion in regard to what the Council had taken up on a previous tentative plana
Councilman Weiss changed his motion to approve the plan and recommended that it be set for a study of
the financeing and completion, seconded by Councilman Herkner.
