Councilman Stout <br />1 moved that the claim be denied and referred to the insurance carrier, seconded by Councilman Weiss and <br />carried. The City Attorney asked that they also refer the claim of Roy Stephens to the insurance carrier. <br />Councilman Stout moved that the copy of the claim of Mr. Stephens be also forvared to the insu rance carrier, <br />a <br />seconded by Councilman .'feiss and carried. <br />CLAIM, MARY SAI4TOS ALLEGED INJURIES, SAME ACCIDENT. Councilman Weiss moved that the claim be denied and <br />referred to the insurance carrier along with the claim of Roy Stephens, seconded by Councilman Herkner and <br />carried. <br />Councilman Granger asked to place on the agenda the matter of the condition of the sidewalks in the vicinity of <br />I� <br />St. Francis and Quartz Streets. Councilman Granger moved that this be referred to the City Engineer for a <br />I' report back in 30 days, seconded by Councilman Weiss who asked that the City Manager make his comments. <br />Motion carried. <br />Councilman Granger asked that the matter of renumbering James and all other streets be placed on the agenda, <br />report to be made by the Managers office. <br />Councilman Stout spoke about the people from Redw)od City who have won acclaim for their raising of flowers. <br />He read an article from the newspaper wherein San Mateo County won 12 first prizes, four second place <br />awards and one third which made a total of 73 points to win the cut flowers sweepstakes award at the Sac- <br />ramento State Fair last week. Councilman Stout moved that the City Attorney be authorized to draw up an <br />appropriate resolution and forward same to the nursery growers of Redwood City and also forward a copy to <br />the other people in San Mateo County who won prizes at the Sacramento Fair, seconded by Councilman Herkner <br />a and carried. <br />i <br />Those winning award were are as follmvs: <br />Enomoto Nursery George Tsukushi <br />Sequoia Nursery Y. Makano Nursery Jim Knecht <br />Councilman Stout moved that a resolution be drawn up commending the Redwood City Softball Team f'or their seccess <br />1 in winning the Northern California Softball Tournament, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />i Councilman Weiss announced that October 7th through 13th is Clean Up Week, He was requested by the Beautification <br />i <br />Committee to ask that the street sweepers clean up the street, the curbs be painted and the trash -cans <br />b <br />painted, seconded by Councilman Stout.on the condition that it be noted that this is also Fire Prevention <br />leek. Motion carried. <br />CouncilmanJ}'feiss stated that Councilman Granger brought up the question of the City Manager's report on renumber- <br />ing of the streets from James Avenue south. This brought up the matter that an acting City Manager should <br />'l <br />rbe appointed during the absence of City Manager Rolison. He noticed from an article appearing in the <br />paper that Mr. Kimball is taking up the administrative matters and the Mayor is to sign contracts, etc. He <br />wanted to pass a motion that Mr. Kimball be designated as acting City Manager. <br />Councilman ti7eiss was told <br />A (ethat this could not be done, and there was a resolution in effect wherein the Mayor acts as City Manager <br />Pro -Tem. <br />Councilman Herkner brought up the matter of, the amount of printing on the trash cans. The Fire Chief was asked to <br />check into, this matter. <br />Councilman, Stout spoke of the Whipple Avenue crossing, and he stated that it had a hump in the middle: He asked <br />if City Engineer Jain had, done anything about the rubber ties. Air. Jain stated that he wrote a letter <br />to the S. P. Go. and they were going to contact the manufacturer. <br />Councilman Herkner moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. Meeting <br />adjourned, 11:00 P.
