The Mayor asked Mr. Kimball to check into this matter and make a report and send this report to the <br />Council before next Monday. <br />Councilman Stout moved that after Mr. Kimball makes his report that the City Manager anser this letter <br />stating that the Council feels that this letter is unfounded and the people are still b Bing bothered <br />by the balls, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner stated that he would like to have a recommendation, possibly by the engineer, as <br />to how these balls can best be kept from going over the fence. TheMayorasked the City Manager to If�l <br />get the proper person to make a report. This was followed by discussion. 1I��JI <br />CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING CONSTRUCTION OF POLICE BUILDING. The City Manager submitted the following <br />report: <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Redwood City, California <br />Gentlemen: o Re: Construction of Police Building <br />The Council will recall. that at the time the present architect was employed, the <br />construction cost of the police building was .estimated at $130,000. <br />In a letter under date of September 27, 1956, Mr. Nobler advises that, due to the <br />increased cost of labor and materials, his estimate now is $169,500. This, of course, <br />is exclusive of architect's fees, new furniture, and other unforseen incidentals. <br />The following table indicates the total estimated cost of the building completely <br />equiped for occupancy. Also, the funds availableand the additional amount of money <br />it will be necessary to raise, according to Mr. Nobler's last estimate. <br />FUNDS NEIDID <br />Architect's estimated cost of construction 169,500.00 <br />Architect's fee (6%) 10,170.00 <br />Estimated cost of Furniture and Equipment 9070.00 <br />Estimated cost of legal fees for bond sale 300.00 <br />Cost of borings 19090.00 <br />TOTAL FUNDS NEEDED 190,930.00 <br />FUNDS AVAILABLE 9 <br />1956 Bonds $ 150,000.00 <br />1944 Bonds 232400.00 <br />TOTAL FUNDS AVAILABLE $ 1:(3,4UU4UU <br />AMOUNT TO BE RAISED FROM OTHER SOURCES $ 17,530.00 <br />Unless the Council is willing to appropriate the additional amount needed from <br />Capital funds, for the completion of this project, it would appear that the plans must <br />necessarily be revised -to conform to the amount of funds available before we can proceed <br />with advertising for bids. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />E. A. ROLISON, City Manager <br />Councilman Spillers moved that they go ahead and advertise -for bids. City Attorney Costello stated <br />that it would be better to hold this over for one week. Councilman Spillets withdrew his motion and <br />then moved that this be carries on the agenda for one week, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner was of the opinion that the Council should look at this matter at a study meeting. <br />The Mayor informed Councilman Herkner that they had a meeting while he was away on a vacation. The <br />Council had not been able to find anything that could be deleted. - <br />-Councilman Granger entered the meeting at 8:30 P. M. <br />CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING PERMIT TO PICK UP AND HAUL RUBBISH IN THE CITY LIMITS BY WALDEN H. PARKER. <br />In his report, the City Manager stated that when this permit was first issured, Mr. Parker was doing <br />occasional hauling on special order, but since that time has deveoped a regdlar scheduled route for <br />pickups. The City Attorney advises that this is in violation of our agreement with the San Mateo <br />Scavenger Company, and it is therefore recommended that his application for renewal of the permit be <br />denied. Councilman Granger moved approval•of the recommendation, seconded by Councilman Spillers <br />and carried. <br />Councilman Weiss spoke on the subject and he suggested that the City Attorney, at his leisure, look <br />
