INTRODUCE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING 35 MILE SPEED LIMIT, INDUSTRIAL WAY. The Clerk read the title of the proposed ordinance. Councilman Stout offered introduction of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Herkner t�. and carried. ATTORNEY WOODMAN APPEAL FROM PLANNING COMMISSION GRANT USE PERMIT FOR AUTO COURT AT 811 WHIPPLE AVENUE. Councilman Spillers moved that this matter be set for- public hearing on April 15th, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. APPROVAL ATTORNEY FEE, DISTRICT COURT OF APPEALS DECISION, TRUCK ROUTE ORDINANCE. Councilman Spillers asked for the recommendation of the City Manager, The City Manager stated that the billets in order. Councilman Spillers moved that the bill b•e paid, seconded by Councilman Weymouth. In answer to a question, Mr. Lebsack stated that this bill did not include any additional costs if the matter should go to a higher court. The motion carried. CITY ENGINEER REQUEST ATUHORIZATION'TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR FURNISHING AND PLACING ASPHALT SURFACING ON ^ P e CERTAIN STREETS, ESTIMATED COST $18,872. Funds are available in this year's budget. The City Attorney asked that this be referred to his office. The Clerk read the letter from the City Engineer to the �r City Manager, said letter reading as follows: We wish to recommend that authorization be granted by the City Council to advertise for bids for the furnishing and placing of approximately 2400 thns of a asphalt plant— mised durfacing on the following streets: STREET ESTIMATE ARGUELLO STREET — Marshall Street to Broadway $ 520. BROADWAY — Jefferson Avenue to Arguello Street 6,088. WINSLCYff STREET — Marshall Street to Pennsylvania Avenue 3,088. MIDDLEFIELD ROAD — Main Street to Jefferson Avenue 3,0118, MIDDLEFIELD ROAD — Marshall Street to Bradford Street 2,128. JEFFERSON AVENUE — Middlefield Road to El Camino Real 3.,600, � $ b, 720 We propose to take alternate bids for the Broadway portion for resurfacing during daylight hours and also for resurfacing at night, in order to determine whether it is justified to pay the additional premimum for night work so as to reduce interference to traffic and inconvenience to merchants. Based on previous experience, this will probably increase the cost of the Broadway surfacing at least $1 per ton. Normally we can obtain a more satisfactory job during daylight hours. We have included in -our Street Maintenance budget sufficient funds to cover this amount of resurfacing by contract. We had previously deferred resurfacing of Jefferson Avenue between Middlefield Road and E1 Camino Real on the assumption that Jefferson Avenue would be widened and improved with new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, etc. As this widening and permanent improvement does not appear to be financi— ally possible within a reasonable time, we recommend that the resurfacing of the existing street be undertaken immediately. This street will eventually need complete reconstruction as the 3xisting base is not adequate for a mjor street. Glenn M. Councilmah Stout wanted to knouv if they could raise the street some on each side of the railroad track. Mr. Jain stated that this would be hard to do. The motion carried.
