<br />the cost of railroad grade separations within the areas. He also reported that the bill now in the
<br />legislature proposes to establish a fund to assist local government uits in paying for their share of
<br />the cost.
<br />Councilman Weiss, referred to a letter in the forum column of the Tribune on March 20th. He believed
<br />that someone should make some response to this letter. The City Manager was asked to check into
<br />the matter.
<br />Councilman Granger asked that the Sidewalk Committee make a recommendation•in regard to the sidewalks
<br />only if the complaint is in writing. He was of the opinion that a complaint should be filed and they
<br />should not acdept telephone conversation complaints. This was followed by discussion and it was
<br />decided to proceed in the same manner as they have been doing.
<br />The City Manager recommended step increases for the following Department Heads:
<br />Alfred Morton, Recreation Director
<br />Muriel Merman, City Librarian.
<br />Councilman Weiss med approval of the recommendation to grant the increase in salary, seconded by
<br />Councilman Spillers and carried.
<br />Claims 22181 through 22318, totaling $1089787*45, were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Spillers,
<br />seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried.
<br />Councilman Spillers moved that the meeting be adjourned to April 22, 1957, at the hour of 8:00 P.M.,
<br />seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. Meeting adjourned, 11:02 PM.

<br />the letter from the Planning Commission and also a letter of protest from Mr. and Mrs. Be L.
<br />Werder, 29 Hyde Street. The following people spoke in protest of the rezoning: Les;:Neadeau,
<br />3 Hyde Street: Mr. David Edmonds, 240 Arlington Road: Josephs DeGeller, 250 Arlington Road: Mrs.
<br />Herbert Nelson, 171 Wellesley Crescent.
<br />W. H. Thorpe, representing Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore, and C. W. Lebsack, representing Mr. and Mrs. Gersmier,
<br />spoke at length in favor of the rezoning. Mr. Ray Murphy presented areal photos, plot plans and
<br />photos of apartment areas they proposed to reproduce. The Material brought up by Mr. Murphy had
<br />not,been presented to the Planning Commission. Mr. Thorpe turned in a petition with fiteen signatures
<br />of people living in the area who did not object to the rezoning. He also presented a form of petition
