456 `-) There will be an increase in the garbage rates because the Garbage companies can no longer feed raw garbage.to hogs. This will mean approximately a 25¢ increase in the garbage rates. The present rates in Redwood City for garbage is: 1 to 15 gallon containers $.65 16 to 25 gallon containers .97 26 to 32 gallon containers 1.30 The proposed rates would be as follows: l.to 15 gallon containers $1.00 16 to 25 gallon containers 1.25 26 to 32 gallon containers 1.50 over 32 gallons at Q cents per gallon of volume Councilman Herkner presented the Clerk with a copy of the audit report of the San Mateo Scavenger Co., Inc., dated October 30, 1956. These rates would not go into effect until July 1st if Belmont ceases burning at that time. This was follawed by discussion. Councilman Herkner stated that these rates were based on a 20 year basis, and these rates would be in addition to the money raised by the County taxes for the disposal district. Councilman Spillers moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary ordinance in accordance with the Committee report, seconded by Councilman Weymouth. Mr. Quinn asked about an individual thking rubbish to the dumps. Councilman Herkner stated that this could still be done, however, there would be a nominal charge. This was followed by discussion after which the motion carried. Councilman Spillers asked permission to leave the meeting. Permission was granted and Councilman Spillers left the meeting at 10:05 P.M. CITY ENGINEER REGARDING OF SLOPING NORTH LEVEE, MARINE HARBOR. The Clerkread the letter wherein the City Engineer called attention to the fact that Mr. J. 0. Archibald donated to the City the use of his personnel and equipment for additional work valued at $637/6.25. It was his suggestion that Mr. Archibald be sent a letter of appreciation for his contribution to this project. Councilman Stout moved that a letter be appreciation be sent to Mr. Archibald, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. CITY MANAGER REPORT ON STREETS AND HIGHWAY MASTER PLAN. The Clerk reed the letter of the City Manager wherein he referred to a letter submitted by the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission's letter reads as follows: The Redwood City Planning Commission has completed studies of the Street and Highway Plan and hope to hold public hearings within a month or six weeks. They have held numbrous study meetings on the Plan and wish to study priorities on setting Plan Lines and construction at an additional study meeting prior to such hearings. As to the Whipple Avenue and E1 Camino Real intersection, the Planning Commission still feels that a portion of the Fox Shoppe property should be purchased to eliminate the existing job, which is one of the City's greatest traffic problems. Councilman Weiss was of the opinion that they should give the matter of Whipple Avenue proper study. He suggested that the matter of plan lines for Whipple Avenue be't'aken up at a study meeting and he so moved, seconded by Councilman Stout. Councilman Granger stated that the Council voted to abandon the Plan Lines on Whipple Avenue and he did not think they had to reconsider the matter. This was followed by discussion. .The motion lost on roll call with Councilmen Granger, Herkner, Weymouth and Mayor Royer voting NO. Councilman Spillers was noted absent. Councilman Granger moved to have a committee appointed to study the means of obtaining money to purchase the property at the corner of lines. The motion lost for lack of a second. Police Cheif Faulstich recommended that they contact the State Highway Department and ask them to make another study.
