<br />3. <br /> <br />This alternative would forgo the creation of over 1000 additional <br />and diversified rnanuiaduring and biotech research jobs, <br />representing one-quarter of the job growth projected for the City <br />from 2000 through 2010 <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />This alternative would forgo the community, recreational and public <br />benefits offered by the Project including: <br />. Public access to the waterfront via a multi-use path <br />around the entire water front perimeter of the site <br />Preservation of the Marine Science Institute, which <br />provides educational services to schools throughout <br />the Bay Area, by setting aside land for the <br />construction of a new 10,000 square foot facility <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />This alternative would forgo the aesthetic and land-use benefit of a <br />unique master planned campus environment with architectural <br />guidelines. <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />In addition to the above, this alternative would not meet the <br />following Project objectives: <br /> <br />a. <br /> <br />A 541,000 sq. ft. multi-phased campus-like <br />development encompassing research and <br />development, manufacturing, warehouse space, <br />administrative office space, amenities and <br />underground parking. <br /> <br />b. <br /> <br />An expanded Redwood City manufacturing center <br />for the existing Perclose/Abbott Vascular facility for <br />the design and manufacturing of lifesaving vascular <br />devices. <br /> <br />c. <br /> <br />A world class West Coast center for research and <br />development of pharmaceutical, nutritional and <br />hospital products for the improvement of patient <br />care and hi-tech, biotech advances in hospital <br />research and development. <br /> <br />2.
