ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
NONE
MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
a. Councilwoman LaBerge referred to the recent San Francisco Chronicle story
showing Redwood City as among the top ten cities in the Bay Area as a good
place to live and commended Mayor Claire, past Mayors Britschgi and Stangel,
the recent City Council members and City staff on the desirable recognition
for the City.
b. Councilman Bury reported that he attended the Executive Committee meeting of
the San Mateo County Stadium Committee which will meet to organize on January
19, 1988 when committee assignments will be made.
c. Vice Mayor Chandler inquired as to whether the council wished to pursue the
matter of establishing a Sister City program.
CONSENSUS: Mayor Claire determined it to be the consensus of Council to
place the matter of establishment of a Sister City program on the Agenda for
the January 18, 1988 Council meeting.
MEMO 1/12/88
d. Councilman Britschgi reported on matters considered by the San Mateo County
Transportation Committee, stating that agreement has been reached with regard
to membership of the elected representatives who would administer the 1/2
cent sales tax, if it is approved by the voters (two members of the Board of
Supervisors and five City Council members); that the list of items to be
financed is complete and priorities as to projects are being set; and that
the Committee voted overwhelmingly to approve a plan including Highway 84
items and the purchase of right -of -way for the railroad crossing without
reference or conditions relating to funding of the railroad crossing on
Dumbarton Bridge.
e. Councilman Stangel reported that the San Mateo County Transit District will
dedicate a new North Base in South San Francisco.
f. Mayor Claire asked Council to delay making appointment of the new Planning
Commissioner for two weeks.
In response to questions, City Attorney Schricker said that with regard to
the proposed Sequoia Medical Office Building, the newly appointed Planning
Commissioner would have only to read the EIR which has already been approved
and listen to the tape of the January 7, 1988 hearing on the Planned
Development Permit in order to participate and vote on the matter; that there
is no legal procedure which allows conditions to be placed on a duly
appointed Commissioner with regard to items on which he or she may vote.
Reg.Mtg.
1/11/88
page 2
MINUTE BOOK NO. 47
Page No. 460
