Matters of Council Interest (continued)
Building Official LaTorra said that representatives of his department, the
Fire Department and the County Health Department have met with the property
owners and were told the buildings would be demolished by today. Mr. LaTorra
said that his department prefers to work with the property owners in such
matters and obtain their cooperation rather than to proceed with nuisance
abatement, and that he will look into the matter on January 19.
MEMO 1/19/88
9.2 Councilman Britschgi distributed an expenditure plan developed by the
Transportation Committee of the Council of Mayors which is working on the
proposed one -half cent sales tax ballot measure. Councilman Britschgi
reported that it has been agreed that; 1) the tax will be collected for 20
years; 2) the transportation authority will be the organization which
handles projects and will be composed of elected officials as described
1/11/88; 3) it will be possible to bond in order to fund projects; and
4) an advisory committee would be formed also.
9.3 Councilman Bury reported that flooding did not reach the homes in the Fifth
Avenue area during the heavy weekend storm and that preventative measures by
staff greatly reduced problems there.
9.4 Councilman Greenalch urged that wide notice be given to the public inviting
them to attend the joint meetings relating to consideration of the General
Plan which will take place on the fourth Mondays of each of the next six
months.
9.5 Councilman Greenalch, called attention to the ceremony honoring Matin Luther
King, Jr. which took place at City Hall earlier in the evening and commended
those who arranged it and those who participated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Counci 1 recessed from 9:50 to 10:03 p.m.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS
10. Traffic Committee recommendation reestablishment of
traffic commission (302 -14)
Matt Leipzig, 2180 Oak Knoll, Chairman, Traffic Committee, offered to reply
to questions.
In response to questions, Mr. Leipzig said that the Committee believes a
Commission would be less temporary and have more stature with other agencies;
that valuable comments regarding traffic matters would be presented to the
Planning Commission and Council; and that it is the Committee's expectation
that if a Commission were established, the present Committee members would be
appointed to the new Commission.
Jon Spangler, 525 Vera #6, said he believes the subject recommendation
represents what Committee members believe is necessary in order that they be
able to do the best job possible and urged establishment of a traffic
commission.
Reg.Mtg.
1/18/88 MINUTE BOOK NO. 47
Page 6 Page No. 470
