MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />a. Mayor Claire referred to his memo to Council, March 5, 1987, regarding a <br />Commemorative Plaque which the Native Daughters of the Golden West have <br />requested be placed in the sidewalk at the corner of Glennan Drive and Farm <br />Hill Boulevard. The Native Daughters will provide the plaque and have asked <br />the Council to install it. <br />Council agreed to the installation of the plaque. (memo 3/10/87) <br />b. Councilman Britschgi asked the status of the pumping station for the Friendly <br />Acres area. <br />City Engineering Addiego responded that a report will be sent to Council in <br />two or three weeks regarding a design for the Bayfront Canal and plans for <br />doing something during the 1988 season in the Fifth Avenue area. <br />c. Council Britschgi inquired regarding the landscaping on the northwest side of <br />Seaport Boulevard. <br />City Attorney Schricker responded that it appears that the City will have to <br />acquire access to the property from Southern Pacific by eminent domain <br />proceedings. <br />d. Councilman Greenalch referred to a letter he received from Kainos Home & <br />Training Center. He said there are two bills pending in the State <br />Legislature that he wants referred to the Legislative Committee. The first <br />bill provides for the supplemental security income and another state increase <br />for people who are disabled would go to the residential care facilities that <br />are providing the services. The second bill is to increase the level of <br />funding that would go to people providing residential care. (memo 3/10/87) <br />e. Councilman Greenalch referred to the letter from Peninsula Celebration <br />Association regarding the possible discontinuance of the Miss Redwood City <br />Pageant due to financial problems. He advised that Canada College is <br />interested in working with the City, if Council decides to continue the <br />Pageant. The College would continue to stage the event and make commitment <br />to provide facilities free of charge and other services at a <br />minimal cost. (memo 3/10/87) <br />f. Councilwoman LaBerge called attention to the fact that the Beautification <br />Community Pride Committee is meeting on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m, in the City <br />Hall Conference room. <br />g. Councilman Bury said it is important to look at the situation of the <br />Peninsula Celebration Association noting that they have done many fine things <br />for Redwood City. He suggested that a committee of Council members be <br />appointed to study the matter because it is a community situation and <br />deserves very special attention. <br />Mayor Claire asked for volunteers and Councilmen Bury and Greenalch agreed to <br />be on the committee.
