ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
a. Councilman Bury reported he and Councilman Greenalch met with representatives
of the PCA (Peninsula Celebration Committee) regarding the activities
provided by PCA and their ability to finance them, particularly the "Miss
Redwood City Pageant" and the Fourth of July fireworks display. Councilman
Bury said Canada College is willing to cooperate in trying to reduce expenses
for use of their facilities, but more assistance would be needed. Councilman
Bury said that he will submit a written report.
b. Councilwoman LaBerge called attention to the cost to the City of private
burglar alarms set off by negligence, and inquired about fines for more than
one such occurrence.
CONSENSUS: Mayor Claire determined it to be the consensus of Council to
request a report from the Police Chief on the number and the extent of the
problem with regard to false burglar alarms caused by negligence, noting that
if it is determined a problem exists, the matter will be referred to the City
Manager and City Attorney for review and recommendation. (memo 3/23/87)
c. Councilman Bury reported on meeting with County representatives regarding the
Emergency Services Council and that a request was made for financial
participation by the City. City Manager Smith said that the item is in the
Annual Budget.
d. Councilman Greenalch announced that the Fire Department would welcome
financial contributions in order to obtain materials for presenting the
Earthquake Preparedness Program in the neighborhoods.
e. Mayor Claire referred to his memorandum of March 20, 1987 relating to the
parking structure for the Centre Redevelopment Sub -Area which is intended to
serve the new Main Library.
CONSENSUS: Following discussion, Mayor Claire determined it to be the
consensus of Council to delay consideration of the size and location of the
parking structure until the staff report on parking which is being prepared
is completed, noting that Council wants parking space to be available for
patrons when the new Library opens. (memo 3/23/87)
f. Councilman Britschgi announced that he and Councilmen LaBerge and Stangel
along with the City Manager and Police Chief will be interviewing architects
on Friday, March 27, 1987 with regard to construction of a new or renovated
police station.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
Reg.Mtg.
3/23/87
Page 2
MINUTE BOOK NO. 47
Page No. 82
