MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />a. Councilman Britschgi reported on the County Transportation Committee attended <br />by Councilwoman LaBerge. The Committee made 9 presentations regarding the <br />1/2 cent transportation tax list, including a hovercraft, light rail and <br />grade separations, intended as background only. <br />Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m, committee members rode Cal Trans to <br />San Francisco, SamTrans bus to terminal, walked to Market Street, rode BART <br />to Daly City, toured proposed Colma station, came down peninsula to airport <br />looking at BART situation, and toured the Dumbarton Bridge area. <br />Councilman Britschgi asked Council for direction on grade separations in <br />Redwood City, and City Manager advised Council report on grade separations is <br />scheduled for Council meeting on 12/7/87. <br />Councilman Stangel will bring report on trains to 12/7/87 meeting. <br />b. Councilman Britschgi noted in the minutes from the Senior Affairs Commission <br />the concern that there is not enough representation from the Fair Oaks <br />section of Redwood City. <br />Councilman Greenalch asked that the record show the Council is also concerned <br />by the lack of representation, and asked Council to work with the Commission <br />to resolve this situation. <br />c. Councilman Britschgi noted that building permits through October 1987 are <br />valued at $93 million and for 1986 value was $90 million. <br />d. Councilman Britschgi described the deplorable conditions at the corner lots <br />located at El Camino Real and Broadway, and E1 Camino Real at James, and <br />asked the City Manager for a remedy. <br />e. Councilman Bury reported that at the Saturday meeting the Neighborhood Boards <br />members discussed lack of participation and also representation, similar to <br />the Senior Affairs Commission, and encouraged efforts to resolve this <br />problem. <br />f. Councilman Greenalch asked that a letter be sent from the Council to the <br />Jewish community expressing our regret over the incidents that occurred last <br />Thursday, and pledging our support. <br />MEMO 11/17/87 <br />g. The Council expressed regret over the resignation of Gilberto Villarreal from <br />the Planning Commission. <br />h. In response to Councilwoman LaBerge's question regarding the letter from the <br />NFL Alumni and their request for use of the Police Youth Club facility at <br />1311 Madison Avenue, City Manager Smith advised the City has no jurisdiction <br />over the property as its use still belongs to the Police Youth Club. <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />11/16/87 <br />Page 4 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 47 <br />Page No. 422 <br />
