Matters of Council Interest (continued) <br />f. CONSENSUS: Mayor Claire determined it to be the consensus of the Council <br />to proclaim the week of December 13th through the 19th as "Drunk Driving and <br />Drugs Awareness Week." <br />MEMO 12/8/87 <br />g. Councilman Greenalch advised that the Senior Affairs Commission would <br />like to have the no parking red zone removed from the curb in front of <br />Herkner Pool during the non - swimming months to allow for more parking, and <br />asked staff to put this on the next Council meeting agenda. <br />MEMO 12/8/87 <br />h. Report re flooding problem - North Fair Oaks and <br />Bayfront Canal Areas (801 -03) <br />Report: Community Development Director 11/10/87 <br />In response to questions regarding financing and options, Jerry Schroedl, <br />Assistant City Engineer, reported: <br />a. The $8 million figure includes a new pump station; <br />b. $250,000 has been spent on options A and B, and they are ready for <br />bid; <br />c. The $75,000 requested to continue exploring Bayfront Canal Project <br />might save up to $500,000 by utilizing detention basin or basins. <br />Dave Evans of Brian Kangas Foulk described the effects of boxing the Atherton <br />Creek, explaining that originally the cost was too high, but it was now being <br />considered as a possible alternative to a larger pump station. <br />M /S: Stangel /Chandler to authorize the expenditure of $75,000 to pursue the <br />alternate Bayfront Canal Project and pursue discussions regarding funding <br />this study with jurisdictions causing or being aff ected by the flooding. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 87 -231 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />The Council recessed from 8:45 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />12/7/87 <br />^age 3 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 47 <br />Page No. 435 <br />
