<br />b.3- ß.) <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />February 7, 2005 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Disposal of Surplus Property <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Adopt a resolution declaring the fire hose inventory referenced herein (Exhibit "A") surplus <br />and convey same to the Fire Science Program at the College of San Mateo in San Mateo. <br /> <br />Background <br />The fire hose utilized by the Redwood City Fire Department has a service life of ten years. <br />Hose that is beyond its service life and/or is damaged is considered unreliable for <br />emergency operations and is of no value to the City of Redwood City. The hose has <br />significant educational value to the Fire Science Program of the College of San Mateo and <br />can be used for training purposes in both the pre-service and in-service Fire Academies. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 3-% of the Charter of the City of Redwood City as amended, <br />the sale of any City personal property having an appraised value of five thousand dollars <br />or less is permitted without public notice or public bid for any reasonable amount, <br />irrespective of its appraised value. It also allows the City to dispose of surplus property no <br />longer required or needed for present or prospective municipal or public purpose without <br />sale. <br /> <br />A total of 46 pieces of equipment may be declared surplus per Exhibit "A", attached hereto. <br /> <br />Alternative <br />Not approve the transfer of this hose to the College of San Mateo and direct staff to find an <br />alternate recipient or dispose of the surplus property. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The transfer of this surplus property would cause no fiscal impact. <br /> <br />.~~ <br /> <br />Gerald Kohlmann <br />Fire Chief <br /> <br /> <br />Attachment: Exhibit "An <br />
