Insurance limits - taxi service (1202 -06)
Report of City Manager 2/5/86
In response to question, Senior Assistant City Attorney Case said that the
City is less liable than some cities with regard to taxicab service, because
regulation is minimal. Mrs. Case said that taxi companies report they cannot
obtain the insurance required by the City and will have to go out of business
if required limits are not lowered.
Jack Murray, 568 Seahorse Lane, urged consideration be given to amounts of
awards to claimants in recent verdicts and whether the coverage is of the
"occurrence" or "claims made" type.
In response to request for evidence higher coverage is not available, Mrs.
Case read from a letter from Sharon Boumis of Bay Area Cab Lease Inc.
Checker Yellow Cab listing the names of insurance companies which have
rejected her application for insurance which meets present city requirements.
Title read.
