General (continued) <br />d. Mayor Britschgi called attention to the letter from Mary R. Koach of the <br />Redwood City Women's Club commenting on the downtown area. (301 -09) <br />Councilman Stangel said he will be happy to meet with Mayor Britschgi and <br />members of the Women's Club to discuss the comments made. Mayor Britschgi <br />said he will contact the Corresponding Secretary and arrange a meeting. <br />MEMO 3/20/86 <br />e. Mayor Britschgi requested that the Legislative Committee consider SB 2186 <br />(Morgan) (301 -06) MEMO 3/20/86 <br />f. M/S : Chandler /Bury that with regard to political signs to ask staff to <br />investigate whether it would be worthwhile to establish the costs of staff <br />time in enforcing the sign ordinance and require candidates to pay for it and <br />to look at the p o s s i b i l i t y of assessing a financial pena 1 ty for illegal <br />placement of signs. (701-02) <br />CLARIFICATION: Councilman Chandler said it is the intention of his motion to <br />ask staff to determine the costs of removing illegally placed signs and <br />whether it is feasible to charge candidates for staff efforts, and also if it <br />is possible to assess a penalty from candidates for failure to obey the sign <br />ordi na nce . <br />City Attorney Schricker said that recovery of costs of enforcement of the <br />sign ordinance is possible, but no advance deposit can be required.
