Chapman, Vice President, Centrum, 5/5/86 <br />Planning Commission record transmitted 5/14/86 <br />Affidavits of Publication of Notice of Hearing and of Mailing are on file. <br />Mayor Claire declared the public hearing open at 7:50 p.m. <br />Arthur Chapman, Vice President, Centrum, 1 Twin Dolphin Drive, explained the <br />reasons for their request for an increase in the previously approved number <br />of hotel rooms, that the policy of the Raffles Hotel is to always keep one - <br />third of their rooms available for business travellers, in addition to being <br />able to attract conventions and meetings. With regard to vehicle trips, he <br />stated that employee trips would not overlap with hotel check -ins; and that <br />Raffles Hotels are committed to operating jitneys and shuttle service for <br />groups, and that the Hotel chain believes that quality hotels provide <br />spacious public areas, and that although it means a larger hotel, it does not <br />generate more people. He stated also that for large evening meetings, the <br />office parking space will be used in addition to the hotel parking area. <br />Paul Bailey, 202 Shorebird Circle, stated that he is Chairman of the Redwood <br />Shores Traffic Committee, which is opposed to any reduction in parking <br />spaces, because they fear that residential streets will be used for the <br />overflow parking. <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />5/19/86 MINUTE BOOK NO. 46 <br />Page 2 Page No. 265 <br />
