MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
1. Councilwoman LaBerge referred to the intersection on Seaport Boulevard /East
Bayshore Road which has only three stop signs instead of four and is causing
traffic problems. She said she realized it was under the jurisdiction of
CALTRANS and asked if the City could install some kind of a "caution" sign to
warn motorist of the situation.
Traffic Engineer Gee advised that his office will be doing a traffic count in
that location and will be sending an encroachment permit aapplication to the
State shortly.
2. Mayor Claire reported that after five weeks of negotiations with the San
Francisco 49er, the 49ers decided to accept the offer from the City of Santa
Clara for a 10 -acre site next to Great America.
Mayor Claire listed three issues that were difficult to overcome:
1. The $1.5 to $1.7 million cash the City needed to buy the Belmont School
site for a City park;
2. The City could only offer the 49ers an 8 -acre site and they wanted from
10 to 12;
3. Negotiations with the City would take at least three months and the
49ers will have access to the Santa Clara site immediately.
Councilman Bury commended Mayor Claire for the outstanding effort he made
towards keeping the 49ers in Redwood City. Vice Mayor Chandler agreed and
said that the Mayor kept the Council appraised at all times regarding the
negotiations.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS
5.
