Item No. 5 (continued)
Ronald L. Anderson, Chairman, Park and Recreation Commission, 2324 Roosevelt
Avenue, advised that 90% of those people at the public hearing were in favor
of the recommendations. He said that parks are made for children and he
would like to see more children in the parks.
Judy E. Buchan, Vice Chairman, Park and Recreation Commission, 1126 Allerton
Street, said that many people do not come to the parks because of the
problems caused by alcohol beverages and glass containers. She noted the
improvement at Mezes Park when alcoholic beverages were prohibited.
Jerry Mortensen, member, Park and Recreation Commission, 452 Barnegat Lane,
stated that he voted against the ordinance because in his opinion glass and
drinking were two separate issues, that beer and wine should be allowed at
picnics, and that banning glass containers would solve most of the problem.
Ed Nordness, member, Park and Recreation Commission, 206 Sheffield Lane,
stated that drinkers create a problem and alcohol, drugs and foul language
are less than conducive for families and children to use the parks.
Minnie Lencioni, 1442 Ebener, spoke in favor of banning alcohol in all
parks noting that the park near her home is much pleasanter since alcohol was
banned there.
Bruce Albin, 569 Compass Circle, stated he lives adjacent to a park and there
are no problems, that their association holds its annual picnic there and
everyone behaves.
Titles read.
