Item No. 6 (continued( <br />A RESOLUTION NO. 10014 APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AGREEMENT FOR <br />ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN IMPROVEMENTS <br />Adopted by unanimous roll call vote. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />7. Concept approval of Fire Station No. 1 (1401 -03) <br />Report of City Manager and General Services Director 9/20/85 <br />Director of Fire Services O'Brien summarized the circumstances necessitating <br />relocation in March 1984, of the personnel from Fire Station No. 1 because of <br />seismic instability of the building, to temporary quarters on Franklin Street <br />at a cost of $44,000 for lease of the building; subsequent design work for <br />the proposed new station at the Bradford Street site, and later revisions to <br />reduce square footage because of budget constraints; and review of some of <br />the features that he prefers to retain in the design, such as a drive - through <br />station to reduce delays in response and reduce traffic hazards; single and <br />double rooms, rather than a dormitory; and bringing back together all <br />administrative functions into one facility. <br />Jim Wetsell, representing DES (Design & Engineering Systems, Inc., <br />Architects), referred to overhead projections of drawings of the proposed <br />fire station and described the proposal in detail. <br />Discussion by Council followed regarding the cost of the project, which Chief <br />O'Brien explained is largely because of the need for a metal roof and other <br />structural elements in order to meet earthquake safety requirements. <br />M /S: Rhodes /Claire to approve the concept of the new Fire Station. <br />Further discussion followed regarding whether a third floor is necessary; the <br />importance of having administration and inspection under the same roof; the <br />importance of anticipating needs of the future, and the fact that eventually <br />the problem of housing those functions would have to be dealt with. <br />SECOND WITHDRAWN <br />Councilman Claire withdrew his second to the motion. <br />Motion died for lack of a second. <br />Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, thought the appearance of the building <br />should be foward - looking. <br />CONSENSUS <br />Mayor Britschgi determined it to be the consensus of Council to carry the <br />matter over to the meeting of October 14, for consideration <br />(MEMO 10/4/85) <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />9/23/85 <br />Page 6 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 46 <br />Page No. 55 <br />
