Wood, Wood's Texaco Service, <br />appellant) (203-06) <br />Report of City Manager and Planning Director 5/30/85 <br />Mayor Britschgi declared the public hearing open at 8:40 p.m. <br />Robert Wood, Wood's Texaco, 503 Whipple Avenue, said that Texaco had enlarged <br />his station, and that he intended to utilize the added space for sale of <br />soft drinks, cigarettes, candy, and beer and wine, and referred to a _ <br />neighboring service station which does offer such items. He said that denial <br />of the Use Permit deprives him of the ability to compete. <br />Planning Director Schroeter advised that the Arco station located across the <br />street from Mr. Woods's station is operating a mini -mart in violation of <br />their Use Permit, that their sale of beer and wine is illegal, and that they <br />have been cited for the violation. <br />Discussion followed and Mr. Wood replied to questions by Council, that his <br />policy is to hire no one under the age of 25; that he personally supervises <br />the station at all times; that his station is self- service, and that the <br />property is owned by a third party which leases to Texaco. <br />Mayor Britschgi invited anyone else present who wished to speak to do so. No <br />one wished to speak. <br />M /S: Stangel /Chandler to close the public hearing. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote and public hearing closed at 8:58 p.m. <br />M /S: Chandler /Mosher to uphold the denial by the Zoning Administrator of <br />application of Robert S.
