That the granting of the Use Permit allowing sale of alcoholic beverages <br />at a mini - market would be detrimental to the health, safety, peace, <br />morals, comfort, and general welfare of persons residing or working in <br />the neighborhood of the proposed use, and would be injurious or <br />detrimental to property or improvements in the neighborhood and to the <br />general welfare of the City in that sale of alcoholic beverages in <br />conjunction with the sale of petroleum products creates an appearance of <br />encouraging conduct inconsistent with safety in the use of motor <br />vehicles; <br />2. That no other service station with mini - markets in the vicinity of the <br />applicant's property are legally permitted to sell alcoholic beverages; <br />a nd <br />3. that communities in the vicinity of Redwood City likewise prohibit the <br />sale of alcoholic beverages in mini - markets operated in conjunction with <br />service stations. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 85 -77 <br />Council requested a report in the next few weeks from the Planning Director <br />regarding the status of the Arco Station, as well as what other cities are <br />doing about the situation. <br />MEMO 6/7/85 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />Council recessed from 9:05 to 9:15 p.m. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br />1. Karie Geiger, representing Sequoia Hospital Foundation, advised that because <br />the recent adoption of revisions to the Bingo Ordinance restrict conduct of <br />games to three times per week, they will be forced to discontinue conductiing <br />bingo games at the American Legion Hall, with whom they have a contract, <br />meaning a loss to the Foundation of up to $2,000 per year. <br />Discussion by Council followed, and it was thought that intercession by <br />Council with the American Legion might be helpful, and Councilman Stangel <br />advised that he will do so and report back to Council. <br />2. Ken Barbara, 775 E1 Camino Real, stated that he was concerned about the <br />recent ordinance (Item 14 on the Agenda) changing parking meter limits to 36 <br />minutes in the 700 block of E1 Camino, and said that certain kinds of <br />business cannot be conducted in that length of time. <br />Councilman Claire, Chairman of the Parking Committee, responded that the <br />majority of the merchants in that area wanted more parking turnover, and had <br />presented a petition to that effect. <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />6/3/85 <br />Page 6 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 45 <br />Page No. 489 <br />
