Human Services (continued) <br />M /S: Mosher /Claire to approve the recommendation for an increase to $30,000 from <br />the requested $23,012 for TEWCI- Senior Citizen Center. <br />Carried by majority voice vote, Councilman Stangel voting no. <br />Community Education Center <br />Human Resources Director Irizarry described the function of the Center and in <br />reply to questions, advised that it is partially funded by the State, but that the <br />County tends to leave educational matters for the State and other agencies to <br />add re ss . <br />M /S: Mosher / Stangel to increase funds for Community Education Center from the <br />Manager's recommendation of $14,500 to the requested $22,000, providing the <br />program expands as expected. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />Center for Independence of Disabled <br />In response to question by Council, the representative of CID stated that <br />approximately 10% of their clientele are from Redwood City, and asked that their <br />request for $7,700 be reinstated. <br />CONSENSUS: The consensus of Council was to approve the Manager's recommendation <br />for funds of $6,025 for the Center for Independence of Disabled. <br />Retired Senior Volunteer Proqram <br />CONSENSUS: The consensus of Council was to approve the Manager's recommendation <br />for $3,700 in funds for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. <br />Kainos Home <br />City Manager Smith recalled that when the first facility was built, there had been <br />some financial difficulty and Council had approved $30,000 for furnishings; that <br />subsequently Council had approved a one dollar per year lease to Kainos of <br />City -owned property, a substantial contribution, on which the most recent <br />residential facility was built by them; and that the rationale for recommending <br />less than Kainos had requested was that it was believed advisable not to become <br />more significantly involved. <br />Vera Bennett, representing Kainos, described a new project for a station in <br />industry which they plan to initiate, to provide training of the Kainos residents <br />to equip them for employment. <br />Sally Salinas, member of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee, spoke in <br />support of funds for Kainos. <br />M /S: Claire /Mosher to increase funding for Kainos to $5,115, the amount they had <br />requested. <br />Budget Study Session <br />6/22/85 <br />Page 2 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 45 <br />Page NO. 477 <br />
