Salvation Army A spokesman for the Salvation Army referred to their request for $15,000 - (Manager's recommendation is $7,150), and described the emergency shelter service they provide, and stated that their request is to allow for expansion of this service. Brief discussion followed regarding the proposal of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee for a similar emergency shelter project. CONSENSUS: The consensus of Council was to approve the Manager's recommendation for allocation of funds in the amount of $7,150 to the Salvation Army. Summer Jobs for Youth The allocation of $1,000 was approved, and reference to a notation that the amount does not include in -kind costs of $1,020 was explained as referring to use of space at the Fair Oaks Community Center. Herbert Hoover Boys /Girls Club The recommendation of the City Manager of $5,000 was approved, and the suggestion made that Community Development Block Grant funds might be used toward the Club in the future. San Mateo Women's Shelter Recommendation of $3,000 was approved. Leqal Aid Society M /S: Rhodes /Stangel to eliminate any contribution to Legal Aid Society. City Manager Smith commented and replied to questions by Council regarding the fact that although there have been occasional differences with the organization, Senior Affairs is part of their operation; and also that the City and Legal Aid Society have worked together in law suits, particularly with regard to Heron Court. The Motion failed by the following roll call vote: Ayes: Chandler, Rhodes, Stangel Noes: Bury, Claire, Mosher and Mayor Britschgi M /S: Bury /Mosher to retain funding for the Legal Aid Society in accordance with the Manager's recommendation of $2,500.
