Human Services (continued) <br />The motion carried by voice vote, Councilman Chandler voting no, and Councilman <br />Stangel abstaining. <br />Salvation Army <br />A spokesman for the Salvation Army referred to their request for $15,000 - <br />(Manager's recommendation is $7,150), and described the emergency shelter service <br />they provide, and stated that their request is to allow for expansion of this <br />service. <br />Brief discussion followed regarding the proposal of the Housing and Human Concerns <br />Committee for a similar emergency shelter project. <br />CONSENSUS: The consensus of Council was to approve the Manager's recommendation <br />for allocation of funds in the amount of $7,150 to the Salvation Army. <br />Summer Jobs for Youth <br />The allocation of $1,000 was approved, and reference to a notation that the amount <br />does not include in -kind costs of $1,020 was explained as referring to use of <br />space at the Fair Oaks Community Center. <br />Herbert Hoover Boys /Girls Club <br />The recommendation of the City Manager of $5,000 was approved, and the suggestion <br />made that Community Development Block Grant funds might be used toward the Club in <br />the future. <br />San Mateo Women's Shelter <br />Recommendation of $3,000 was approved. <br />Leqal Aid Society <br />M /S: Rhodes /Stangel to eliminate any contribution to Legal Aid Society. <br />City Manager Smith commented and replied to questions by Council regarding the <br />fact that although there have been occasional differences with the organization, <br />Senior Affairs is part of their operation; and also that the City and Legal Aid <br />Society have worked together in law suits, particularly with regard to Heron <br />Court. <br />The Motion failed by the following roll call vote: <br />Ayes: Chandler, Rhodes, Stangel <br />Noes: Bury, Claire, Mosher and Mayor Britschgi <br />M /S: Bury /Mosher to retain funding for the Legal Aid Society in accordance with <br />the Manager's recommendation of $2,500. <br />Budget Study Session <br />6/22/85 <br />Page 3 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 45 <br />Page No. 478 <br />
