Item No. 9 (continued)
Jean Cloud, 890 Edgewood Road, a Library volunteer for eight years, stated
that the lack of library space is appalling, noting that it was constructed
in a very minimal way during the depression years for a population of only
10,000 and has not been improved or expanded. Mrs. Cloud suggested the
condition of a city's library reflects community attitude, and she believes
the citizens of Redwood City and the collection deserve a better building.
Dorothy Rouse, 891 Edgewood Road, Library Board member and patron, stated
she supports the remarks of previous speakers and urged Council to construct
a new library with adequate space.
Harriet Trice, 3617 Midfield, Friend of the Library since 1970, and partici-
pant in the Outreach Program, suggested taxpayers' money could be better
spent, if library staff did not have to waste time because of inadequate,
poorly located facilities, and the public would receive better service.
John J. Murray, 568 Seahorse Lane, frequent user of the business library
service at the Main Library, reported the collection is as good as that
found in well -known business libraries and is a real asset to the business
community. He urged improvement of the Library space and facilities.
Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, suggested the City could use five times
the present Library space, and believes there should be more community
attention called to financing the civic center before proceeding with the
project.
Thetis Pappas, 587 Seahorse Lane, frequent user of the Library, commended
the Library staff for the fine job they do in very poor working conditions
and urged that a big improvement be made of library facilities.
There being no objection, Mayor Stangel ordered that the subject of financing
Civic Center improvements be referred to the Mid Year Budget Review session
scheduled for February 4, 1984.
REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
8. City Council Committee report re Multimodal Transportation Center (802 -02)
Report dated 1/4/84
Vice Mayor Britschgi presented the subject report.
Planning Director Schroeter referred to sketches of a proposed modest
facility with platforms, shelters, ticket booths, benches, rest rooms, etc.,
which would be appropriate for Redwood City as the County Seat and a city
with substantial public transportation ridership.
Reg.Mtg.
1/9/84
Page 9
MINUTE BOOK NO. 44
Page No. 322
