Resident, 62 Tum Suden Way, Woodside, said that the proposed development
would be on a blind corner where a dangerous traffic situation exists. He
said the area is rural and he is opposed to introducing cluster housing there
and also objects to removal of trees.
Tom Knapp, 70 Tum Suden Way, Woodside, endorsed the comments of the previous
speaker and suggested landslide problems also might exist because of the
steep slopes.
A.W. Maguire, 988 Godetia Way, Woodside, across from the proposed
development, expressed concern about the additional traffic problems a
19 -unit development would bring, noting that Woodside has a one -acre minimum
lot size in the adjacent area and four or five homes might be acceptable on
the site. Mr. Maguire questioned whether the developer has obtained a
necessary sewer connection easement from the Elks Club. He suggested the
developer could give the top six acres to an open space district and use the
lower part for four or five homes on one -acre lots.
Geri Mayers, 170 Woodside Drive, Woodside, inquired if adequate police and
fire protection from Redwood City would be available. It was explained that
the City could service the area.
Robert Sturm, 4149 Jefferson, adjacent to the property, objected to
development because of the steepness of the site, the increase in traffic and
the loss of trees.
David Silverman, 844 West California Way, adjacent to the site, said the
dangerous traffic situation is his main concern as there is no room on the
streets for additional cars.
Tom Adams, attorney representing some neighbors of the site who support the
Planning Commission decision, said that the developer has the flexibility to
return with another application presenting a plan responding to the Planning
Commission concerns stated in the Minutes. Mr. Adams said the neighbors
would prefer development consistent with the surrounding area and urged the
Council to uphold the decision of the Planning Commission.
In response to question, Mr. Adams said he does not know of any open space
district or foundation which might be willing to purchase some of the
property for that purpose.
Philip Forsyth, 1104 Godetia, Woodside, said he has had considerable
unfortunate experience as a result of the existing traffic hazards and
opposes the development.
James Rafferty, 1000 Godetia, Woodside, also commented on dangerous traffic
conditions and said he opposes any realignment of Godetia.
Resident, 998 Lakeview, noted dangerous traffic conditions which exist and
the rural character of the neighborhood in opposing development.
Minutes
6/11/84
Page 6
MINUTE BOOK NO. 45
Page No. 47
