Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 84 -160 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 1. Sam Halsted, 500 Santa Cruz Avenue, Menlo Park, requested that he be permitted to amend the grading perm t he has for the Cordilleras Heights development to change the amount of bond from $57,400 to $27,000 since he has only a two -week period in which to c o the work which will not exceed $27,000. City Manager Smith stated that the request cannot be granted administra- tively, since Council authorized the permit, but he has no objection. Director of Public Works Addiego said that the work planned is for storm drainage and erosion control which will be of benefit to the City and will permit the developer to proceed at today's haul rates. He noted that time is important because of the expected rainy season soon. In response to-question, City Atorney Schricker said that the Council may adopt a resolution at this time to take the action requested. - Title read. Mayor Britschgi brought up the subject of the location of the proposed new County Jail, stating that if it is planned for downtown, he objects to removing land from the tax rolls and does not believe it would improve the downtown economic climate. He stated that the City has not been included in discussions of the County's plans, although the jail is expected to be located here. Discussion followed concerning the County's plans; the need for increased County parking; the possibility of a combined parking structure and jail; the availability of a large piece of County property behind the Government Center which would be appropriate for such a structure; and the desire of Council to discuss the matter with the County in order to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution.
