Item No. 5 (continued)
Report of City Manager and Chief Building Official 10/18/84
In response to inquiry, Senior Assistant City Attorney Case said that staff
testimony may be taken regarding the two subject abatement items at the same
time, but they must then be considered separately.
Chief Building Official Malkemus referred to the subject report relating to
property at 612 Jefferson Avenue and to slides of the exterior depicting the
conditions which prompted the abatement proceedings. Mr. Malkemus then
presented the same information relating to the property at 620 Jefferson
Avenue with slides including views of the interior of the garage.
Mr. Malkemus replied to questions concerning occupancy of the buildings.
City Manager Smith and Mrs. Case noted that the City would assist tenants in
terms of helping them to find other housing.
Mayor Britschgi declared the public hearing on the 612 Jefferson property
open at 8:02 p.m.
Melvin Robert Curtaccio, 160 Phillip Road, Woodside, representing Margaret
Kecskes, owner of 612 Jefferson Avenue property, stated that he intends to
purchase the property which is presently in escrow. He requested a 30 -day
continuance of the public hearing.
In response to question, Mr. Malkemus said that when a building is condemned,
a 30 -day "clock" begins to run during which period the building may be
reconstructed, if that is possible, or removed.
Gabor , son of Mrs. Kecskes and resident of 612 Jefferson, said he is
ready to move as soon as he can find housing and the sale is completed and
requested a 60 to 90 day continuance. He stated that he does not want
assistance in finding housing.
Paul Chapman, Redwood City resident, said he wishes to purchase both of the
subject properties which he plans to reconstruct immediately and operate as a
boarding house at a nominal charge for unemployed persons. He reported
conversation relating to sale of her property with Mrs. Kecskes and
requested delay of a week.
In response to question, Mr. Malkemus said that the abatement proceedings
have been delayed since July 16, 1984, because of assurances from Mrs.
Kecskes and her son that he would be moved out and the structure boarded up
within 30 days, or by August 16, since the property was for sale.
Gabor ( see above) indicated he holds the title report on the property which
is in escrow and that he is unaware of any other offer.
Mayor Britschgi invited anyone else present who wished to speak regarding the
612 Jefferson property to do so. No one wished to speak.
M /S: Claire /Chandler to close the public hearing.
Reg . f1tg .
11/5/84
Page 3
MINUTE BOOK NO. 45
Page No. 174
