Storm discussion (continued)
City Attorney Schricker stated for the record that much of the Fifth
Avenue flood area is a multi - jurisdictional area where those upstream have
not taken action to reduce the flow downstream which floods Redwood City.
Mr. Addiego said that discussions are taking place with the County.
Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, noted that four jurisdictions are
involved along Cordilleras Creek. She noted the City has been cleaning up
summertime debris, observing that much of it is manmade and thrown into
the creek creating flooding downstream in winter. Mrs. Spangler suggested
that responsibility might be a high priority subject for creekside
neighborhoods in the informal Council meetings. She recommended watching
upstream development and obtaining the cooperation of the City of San
Carlos.
Mr. Addiego reported that in the Cordilleras area, residents had been the
subject of a door to door program with City workers warning residents of
potential problems and asking them to clean up their area, noting that the
City of San Carlos has been asked to take similar action with regard to
residents on the other side of the creek.
CONSENSUS: At the request of Councilman Claire, and there being no
objection, Mayor Stangel asked that a report be made as to the overall
City situation with regard to storm drains and the sewer system with an
estimate made as to the cost of bringing the entire City up to adequate
standards.
