EPORT <br /> <br /> , From tl e City Manager <br /> <br />June 10, 2002 <br /> <br />Subject <br />2001-2002 Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Program <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />By Motion, approve the specifications, accept the bid, and award the contract for the 2001- <br />2002 Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Program to Construction Consolidate Corp. <br />of Santa Clara, CA, for the amount of $537,143.00 and reject all other bids. <br /> <br />Background <br />On April 22, 2002 staff mailed out the contract documents and specifications to 12 <br />bidders and advertised the subiect contract. The proposed contract has been duly <br />advertised ane fou~ sealec Di(~,~ were received and opened at the Office of the City <br />Engineer on May 15, 2002. <br /> <br /> BIDDER PRICE <br />Construction Consolidate Corp., Santa Clara, CA $537,143.00 <br />Sposeto Engineering, Inc., Union City, CA 9633,910.00 <br />Vargas & Esquivel Construction, San Francisco, CA $638,650.00 <br />P & P Construction, Inc., Newark, CA 9709,925.00 <br /> Engineer's Estimate 9626,700..00 <br /> Median 9636,280.00 <br /> <br />Construction Consolidate Corp. is the lowest responsible bidder at 14.3% below the <br />Engineer's estimate. Construction Consolidate Corp. has worked for the cities of <br />Burlingame, Millbrae, and Sunnyvale on similar projects. Staff has contacted those <br />cities and believes Construction Consolidate Corp. will perform the project in a <br />satisfactory manner. <br /> <br />The project addresses damaged sidewalk, driveway approach, curb and gutter at all <br />locations meeting a one-inch defect or greater, and constructs wheel chair ramps at all <br />corners in the project area. The work will be performed in the remaining sites in reporting <br />area 20 on Poplar Avenue, Redwood Avenue, Connecticut Drive, and Virginia Avenue and <br />most sites in reporting area 22 bound by Connecticut Drive, Alameda de las Pulgas, <br />Goodwin Avenue, and Massachusetts Avenue. <br /> <br />Tree work for the project will be coordinated and performed by the City's tree maintenance <br />staff or contractor as resources are available. Root pruning or tree removal decisions are <br />determined on a case by case basis, with the first priority being to preserve trees. <br />Adequate space is necessary between the tree and new sidewalk to perform root pruning. <br /> <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
