Adult Entertainment Businesses (301 -19) <br />Councilman Claire referred to the letter of April 7, 1983 to the City <br />Council from Vice Mayor Britschgi relating to Adult Entertainment <br />Businesses <br />M /S: Claire/Mosher to direct the Planning Commission to explore various <br />alternatives available to the City to restrict the locations of businesses <br />that engage in the sale or distribution or showing of pornographic <br />materials and to make a recommendation to the City Council as to what they <br />consider the best course of action Council could take that would be in the <br />best interests of the citizens of Redwood City. <br />Discussion followed concerning the enforcement of existing regulations <br />affecting all businesses such as those relating to signs, buildings, <br />parking, etc. and the City's previous experience with regard to regulation <br />of adult entertainment businesses. <br />AMENDMENT TO MOTION: In response to suggestions, Councilman Claire, with <br />the consent of his second, amended the motion to holding a joint meeting <br />of the Planning Commission and the City Council for the purpose of dis- <br />cussing the subject of his main motion. <br />City Attorney Schricker advised that such a joint meeting would be a study <br />session and that separate hearings are necessary for any proposed zoning <br />changes. <br />The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 83 -65 <br />2. Letter from County of San Mateo re participation in cost of feasibility <br />study for a convention center in the County (305 -04) <br />(see Minutes 4/18/83, page 7) <br />Councilman Bury reported he has discussed the subject letter with repre- <br />sentatives of the Board of Supervisors and has learned the proposed study <br />is expected to cost about $40,000 with the County contributing $20,000, or <br />half the cost. Councilman Bury reported further that cost to Redwood City <br />is expected to be about $400.00. <br />Discussion followed and Councilman Bury replied to questions concerning <br />the probable locations of hotels and restaurants, the need for service <br />jobs, the possible value of the study to the City and the desire for <br />cooperation with the County in the matter. <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />4/25/83 <br />Page 4 <br />
