<br />REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER (continued) <br />Item No.6 (continued) <br /> <br />Joan Jordan, Downtown Merchants Association, 831 Jefferson, reported the <br />Association is concerned about the use of properties on Broadway for a <br />church, restaurants, bars and banks, stating that customers of the merchants <br />state that they prefer a shopping district there and suggest the City should <br />offer more support to merchants. <br /> <br />'"-- <br /> <br />Mayor Biagi stated for the record that the City Council has a long record of <br />support for improvement of the shopping district on Broadway and cited the <br />some two million dollars of general tax monies spent recently on the <br />rehabilitation of the street, suggesting merchants might so advise their <br />customers. <br /> <br />Discussion continued concerning the considerable City commitment to the <br />improvement of the Broadway shopping area already demonstrated and the need <br />for support from the community. <br /> <br />MIS: ChandlerlLeipzig to set the matter of a proposed Interim Study Zone <br />for the downtown area for public hearing on Monday, May 3, 1982, using Map <br />No.1 attached to the report of the City Manager and Planning Director of <br />March 12, 1982 to designate the boundaries of the District. <br /> <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------¡----------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 82-36 <br /> <br />CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />7.
