Regarding neighborhood parks within 800 feet, he agrees that <br />residents have ownership to help clean -up as in the area of Stambaugh and <br />Heller where graffiti was removed. He asked how gangs might be discouraged <br />from taking over the area. <br />Pastor Dennis Logie stated the round -about is a wonderful plan, but challenged <br />the City to install "yield" signs at the round -about in Redwood City eliminate the <br />need to come to a full stop. <br />Council Members asked various questions which included how we might bring <br />the community along with such a concept, what incremental steps should be <br />taken, suggestion of master walk planning the neighborhood and collaborating <br />with the schools. Mr. Burden was complimented on the presentation. <br />Mr. Burden addressed the questions. <br />Recommendation: <br />Information -only. No action taken. <br />7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California <br />Cities Priority Focus Bulletin No. 10 -2005 and 11 -2005. Council may direct staff <br />to act on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus available in City Clerk's Department). <br />B. Council Member Howard — received a letter from the South San Francisco <br />Mayor stating that their city was well underway in obtaining water transit service <br />from South San Francisco and the East Bay to San Francisco. The letter thanks <br />Council Member Howard and Redwood City for the support and work in this effort <br />and offers the South San Francisco staff and Council to assist in our obtaining <br />water transit in the near future. <br />C. Vice Mayor Pierce - announced that poetry will be coming alive in Redwood City <br />with the results of the first annual youth poetry contest on Saturday, April 2 at the <br />Fox Theatre is a free public event that features youth presenting their work. The <br />finalists range from kindergarten through high school and that evening the U.S. <br />Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, will be performing as well. She encouraged anyone <br />interested to contact the Fox Theatre or Montalvo.
