¿:/ð-/ REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Ci Mana er April 25,2005 Subject Approval of Change Orders - Redwood City Library - Schaberg Branch Renovation Project Recommendation Approve and authorize the proposed additional change orders to the Contract Documents for the Redwood City library - Schaberg Branch Renovation Project, in the amount of $25,138.00. Background The Schaberg Library Renovation Project was awarded to Coastside Construction on December 6, 2004, in the amount of $581,625. The Schaberg Library was built in 1953, and has had additions and other various modifications done to the original building throughout the years. The project initially was to bring the building up to compliance with the American With Oisabilities Act (ADA). This included revising the ramps for access, modifying the front desk area, and to upgrade the bathrooms and entrances to meet AOA requirements. In addition, during the design of the project, the Library staff had requested various changes to the operation and overall look of the Library, and requested additional changes to bring the Schaberg Library into a more vibrant, functional, and aesthetically pleasing gathering place. These changes were included in the final design documents. During construction, both unforeseen and additional changes requested by the Library staff, has increased the scope of the project. The proposed changes will exceed staffs approval authority. These changes include: Install below grade waterproofing around the building to prevent water damage to the basement area. Estimated cost: $35,000 Add user requested slat walls, mop sink, and install new communication conduit. Estimated cost: $12,000 Various unforeseen changes to the electrical, structural and drainage system and additional removal of asbestos.
