<br />A'11"RC"fV\E r-J\ <br /> <br />PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES DEPARTMENT <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />A <br /> <br />Date: <br /> <br />February 26,2003 (revised) <br /> <br />To: <br /> <br />PWS Management Team <br /> <br />From: <br /> <br />Peter Ingram, Public Works Services Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />PWS DEPARTMENT PROCEDURE - <br />HIRING TEMPORARY WORKERS FROM BAY SPAN INC. <br /> <br />Confirming our understanding with Bay Span Inc., concerning the back-grounding of <br />temporary workers to the same standards as new City employees, below is the process for <br />hiring temporary employees: <br /> <br />1) PWS Manager contacts Bay Span to request temp employee(s) <br />2) Bay Span forwards PWS Manager resumes for review and selection <br />3) PWS Manager selects the temp employee(s) he/she is interested in hiring, and <br />notifies Bay Span <br />4) Bay Span does background checks on the employee(s) <br />5) Bay Span emails preliminary findings to the department hiring authority (director) <br />and copies the Administrative Secretary (Bay Span follows up with formal letter to <br />director, c/o of Jan Sherman, indicating findings as previously transmitted via e-mail) <br />6) Director notifies managers of authorization to hire, <br />or <br />Director notifies managers that authorization is denied due to background problem <br />7) Hard copies of the initial e-mail and subsequent letter are filed in a secure location <br />by the Administrative Secretary.
