<br />ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY <br /> <br />NUMBER: 30 <br />EFFECTIVE: April 1, 2003 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />DOMESTIC PARTNER HEALTH BENEFITS <br /> <br />PURPOSE <br /> <br />To define the City's policy on providing health benefits to domestic partners of <br />City Employee's and to establish specific procedures for the proper <br />administration of the benefit. <br /> <br />POLICY <br /> <br />It is the policy of the City of Redwood City to provide domestic partners and the <br />children of domestic partners, the opportunity to enroll in the City's health plans <br />administered by the California Public Employees Retirement system. <br /> <br />Domestic partners must meet the requirements for enrollment as stated ¡nArticle <br />9, Section 22873 of the Public Employees Retirement Law, and must submit the <br />required documentation to the City's Human Resources department. for <br />confirmation. <br /> <br />Domestic Partnership <br />For the purpose of providing health care benefits, a domestic partnership is <br />defined as two adults of the same sex, both over the age of 18, and opposite sex <br />domestic partners where one person is over the age of 62. <br /> <br />Dependent Children <br />Children must be economically dependent upon the employee for their financial <br />support and have a parent-child relationship with the employee. <br /> <br />PROCEDURES <br /> <br />1. Employees may enroll their domestic partner and or children of their <br />domestic partner on the first day of the month following receipt of the <br />notarized Declaration of Domestic Partner Registration from the <br /> <br />i. <br /> <br />...",..,_..'_m__~'_'--"'~"" <br />
