Tree removal permit inspections shall include a verbal contact with the property owner. The
conversation should include the reasons for the requested work, verifying a safe access to
inspect the tree, confirmation that a tree contractor has been selected and discussion about
the receptivity of planting a replacement tree in an appropriate location on the property.

During the permit inspection process, all site considerations should be used in formulating
your recommendation. The recommendation to the City will be a written recommendation for
the City to make a determination on the permit request. The justification for your
recommendation for approving a tree removal may not have been stated by the permit
applicant such as the obscure presence of decay or fatal insect infestation.

In the event of an interruption of your ability to complete these recommendations during the
three month period, a substitute person or company shall be available to complete the
inspection and recommendation process.

You may use your own site observation form to record observations made during your
inspection. The City's Site Observation form is included for your review.

The City averages about 25 combined pruning and removal permit applications per month.
The permit application must be signed by the property owner for each individual property.
There may be more than one tree per application.

Proposals will be evaluated on the combination of cost, arboricultural experience, quality of
the inspection record format presented and the sample recommendation to be completed on
the Oak Tree located in Palm Park adjacent to the Sequoia YMCA.

Proposals must be received at the Public Works Services Department, 1400 Broadway,
Redwood City, CA 94064, by Friday, June 5, 1998 before 4:00 PM. Proposals must be
submitted complete, on the attached form.

If you have any further questions, please contact me at (650) 780-7493.

Sincerely,

~~

Gordon Mann
Public Works Superintendent

Attachments:

Tree Removal Permit Application for Oak Tree in Palm Park to be submitted
as part of proposal
Redwood City's Site Observation form
Tree Preservation Ordinance
Blank Tree Pruning/Removal Permit Application
Copy of Info Sheet handed out with tree preservation permit applications

Copy:

Peter Ingram, Public Works Services Director

Gsm/wwiMreesl~ - ~eritag.,

"

"""',-'-"""-""r""""""""'-"
