7.A. - Page 4
o A similar identifiable resident group or association should exist in the proposed
Sister City, with a clear indication of intent to carry out active mutual programs.
Asociacion Civil Amigos de Aguililla (Aguililla's Sister City Organization in
Mexico) initially brought forward an informal Sister City request.
Additionally, Comite Ciudades Hermanas (Aguililla's local Sister City
Committee in Mexico) has over twenty committee members that will
actively participate in Sister City relations and programs.
o The municipal government of the proposed city should demonstrate support for
establishing and developing a Sister City affiliation with Redwood City.
The City received a formal sister city request letter (Attachment 2) from
Aguililla, Michoacan, Mexico in January 2017, that was signed by
Presidente C. Israel Mendoza Mendoza, Presidente Municipal de Aguililla,
the senior municipal officer of Aguililla.
Aguililla has met the guidelines for the selection of a new Sister City relationship. City
staff recommends City Council approve the Agreement on Establishment of Sister City
Relationship between Aguililla, Michoacan, in the United Mexican States and the City of
Redwood City, California, in the United States of America. Such a partnership will
promote the exchange of cultural, educational, economic and social information
between the communities of Redwood City and Aguililla.
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council may decide not to enter into this agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT
No fiscal impact. Any delegation activities and expenses will be paid and provided by
the community sponsoring organization.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section
15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical
change in the environment.
DEANNA VAZQUEz LA CROIX
MANAGEMENT ANALYST
