Classify and continuously log subsurface soil conditions encountered
in each test boring at the time of drilling. Obtain "relatively
undisturbed" and bulk samples of substrata from test borings. The
borings will be drilled and capped in accordance with the permit
requirements. Generally the borings are required to be backfilled
with cement grout.

Task 3

Laboratory Testing: Perform laboratory tests on representative soil
samples such as moisture density, direct shear, unconfined
compression, gradation analyses, R-value tests, corrosion tests and
Plasticity Index test, as necessary.

Task 4

Soils Analysis/Evaluation: Perform engineering analyses to develop
design recommendations for the proposed pavement, embankment
slopes and retaining structures. Perform corrosion study of the
subsoils per Caltrans guidelines.

Task 5

Preliminary Soils Recommendations: Prepare preliminary soil design
parameters and recommendations for the proposed widening.

Task 6

Prepare Geotechnical Design Report: Prepare detail report including
design recommendations for pavement sections, sub grade
preparation for culverts, information on groundwater conditions, and
other relevant geotechnical issues. Since the project is within the
State right of way the report will be a Geotechnical DesignlMaterials
report format. Only one report is planned for the project.

Discuss seismic considerations, evaluate the liquefaction potential
and comment on the site soil conditions from this standpoint.
Information related to Caltrans Seismic design criteria such as depth
to rock like material and peak rock acceleration shall be provided.

Prepare the report documenting the work performed, physical data
acquired and geotechnical design recommendations.

Using the general plan as a base map, prepare Soil Survey Sheets and
Log of Test Borings for roadway and structures, respectively, in
accordance with the Caltrans standards.

Task 7

Design Review/Consultation through final design.

Assist design team during Caltrans design review process.

City of Redwood City - Route 84 (Woodside Road) Widening
Proposal- PS&E

08/08/00

6 of 1 0

,."'-"""'--,..~"'"
