According to M5. Susan Kelly, Manager of Wildlife <br />Services at PHS, they are willing to provide the staff to remove <br />native species from the traps, conduct health in$pect.i.oIl8 on the <br />animals, and then release the wildlife back to the approxim~te <br />area. <br /> <br />ln general, the DFG opposes the relo~ation of wildlife, <br />especi~lly when the relocation involves raccoons and skunks which <br />are common in Bay Area counties. However, based on circumstances <br />at Redwood Shores, the DFG believes it will be beneficial to work <br />with the PHS to release a limited number of trapped native <br />wildlife, provided the animals are healthy and the release occurs <br />within a three-mile radius of the capture site. <br /> <br />In granting this approval, it is important for the CJSD~ to <br />know that the DFG has enjoyed a long-term working relationBtlip <br />with the PHS and has every expectation that their involvement <br />will be conducted respon~ibly. Additionally, some biologic~l <br />information may result from this exercise. PHS has assured us <br />that al] wildlife will be micro-chipped. Thus, if an animal is <br />re-trHpped at a later date, the scientific information may prove <br />beneficial at a future event like that occurring at Redwood <br />Shores. <br /> <br />Secondly, PHS believes that there will be very few raccoons <br />or 5kunkstrapped by the USDA.
