M¿r-~3-00 lO:3BA

P.O~

5~-(p

Mr. Gary Simmons
March 8, 2000
Pate Twr>

December of 1998. !Juring this IS-month period, according to PHS,
only one raccoon and no skunks were trapped by ~he feral cat
network.

In summary, with regard to the rehabilitation and release of
wildlife, California Code of Regulations Section 679(f) (4)
prr>hibits the relocation of "...any wildlife trapped in towns or
citic~ or removed f~om under buildings or otherwise taken or
trapped as nuisance wildlife. Such wildlife shall be immediately
released back to the w=.ld..." Inasmuch as red foxes are the
focu~ of Lhe U5D~'s trapping operation, it would seem prudent to
approve t~e relea~c of nùtive wildlife within a reasonable
distance of the trap site. In the past, a three-mile radius has
been l:I distance we used to satisfy the "immediate area"
requirement. Therefore, the DFG approves this distance being
applied at Redwood Shores. On the other hand, if a highcr-than-
an t.icipa ted number of rac(;oon:5 and skunks are trapped, the DFG
reserves ~LS riqh~ to reconsider the aforementioned apprr>val.

By ù copy of this letter, PHS is reque5ted to report ~O the
DFG monthly the numb~r of native wildlife trapped. Please
provide that information to Captain Tom Belt at (707) 944-5544.

Sincerely,

~
ðt'

Brian Hunter.
Regional Mi!mager
Central Coast Region

,.

cc: U(;.
