A preliminary allocation of $127 million for
Caltrain improvements has been eannarked from this source, but it is evident that many other
statewide decisions will be made regarding transportation funding. Communities that can
demonstrate compelling transit needs and exhibit coordinated, meaningful consensus for
improvements will have the best opportunities to participate in future allocations.
In San Mateo County, where mounting congestion threatens our quality of life and future
prosperity, we must take advantage of every avenue to fund our public transportation
infrastructure. I invite your community to join with county govemment, SamTrans, County
Transportation Authority, Caltrain governing board and fellow municipalities to demonstrate to
the Governor's Oce that we have the need and the will to utilize these State resources most
effectively.
Enclosed is a sample resolution that your city may wish to enact and forward to the Governor.
You may elect to express your conviction in another manner: Whatever avenue you choose, I
urge you and your colleagues to act promptly and clearly to send our message to Sacramento.
Thanks for your help, and please feel free to contact me with questions or comments at the
county offices (650) 363-4572 or care of SamTrans (650) 508-6242.
Sincerely, .
A

Mi Nevin, hair
Enc.
C: Boazd of Directors
Michael J.
