1):t.-~
Pump Repair Services bid amount of $238,102 represents a decrease of approximately 7%
compared to last years bid and staff is confident that this is a competitive bid.

Having a Purchase Order in place with a qualified repair facility for the repair and/or
replacement of utility pumps with a 24-hour completion time will minimize Redwood City's
potential liability.

Alternative
1. Direct staff to solicit individual bids on an as-needed basis. However, this could place
the City in a vulnerable position if one of these pumps failed due to the time involved
in soliciting bids. A failure of a sewer pump station could result in a sewage backup and
a potential spill into a storm drain.
2. Direct staff to solicit additional bids from vendors from a broader area.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase and/or repair of the utility pumps were approved and appropriated
by the City Council in the amount of $238,102, partially in the Public Works Services Fiscal
Year 2000101 operating budget and partially in the Capital Improvement Program budget.

~37/
Larry rwacz
Public Works Superintendent

Peter Ingram V~
Public Works Services Director

(jtJ

Ed Everett
City Manager

Attachment: 1.
