REPORT
To the Honorabie Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
August 14, 2000
Subject
Final Acceptance — Hoover Pool and Bath House Renovation Project
Engineering File No. 803-02
Recommendation
Accept the improvements for the Hoover Pool and Bath House Renovation Project, and
authorize the release of bonds.
Background:
The Hoover swimming pool complex consists of a 1960's facility, comprised of a bath
house, main pool, and a children's wading pool, which needed extensive renovation,
not only for appearance and wearability, but also to meet the American with Disabilities
Act (ADA) and code compliance.
The initial intent was to do remodeling/renovation in order to bring the bath house,
restrooms, and the swimming pools to current ADA compliance, as well as providing
new lighting, ventilation, and fire alarm system.
The main pool needed complete replastering and new tile work, plus new equipment for
making the pool disabled accessible.
Four (4) change orders totaling $81,497.58 were approved by City Council. The
changes included replastering the children's wading pool; adding new stucco to the
exterior of the building; installing a non-skid epoxy flooring, and other necessary
unforeseen changes. Although this is 18.3% over the original contract amount, it is not
out of line with other out dated facilities that require extensive remodeling and
renovating.
The pool officially opened to the public on June 20, 2000. The renovated Hoover Pools
& Bath House was enthusiastically welcomed by both staff and the public. The
upgraded shower facilities, restrooms, lighting, brighter colors, and upgraded
mechanical pool equipment will provide many years of recreation enjoyment to the
public.
_. ___ _._ _ _ _ ._.._._. . __ ... - . _
