1..s
ground surface. A temporary well will be constructed in each boring and a rab
goundwater sample will be collected.
i Each soil boring will be logged in the field utilizing the Unified Soil Classification
System. Office and field sugervision for the drilling and log;in operations will be
provided by a California registered civil engineer.
The temporary well materials will be removed and the borin will be abandoned to
the specifications of the San Mateo County permit requirements.
i Soil and oundwater samples will be containerized, labeled and transported to a
California certified laboratory for analysis under chain-of-custody proceedins.
> Provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures during the field
activities. These procedures include decontaminating the sampling equipment prior
to, and following each use. Decontamination will consist of washing the equipment
in an Alconox0 solution, folIowed by a fresh water rinse, and subsequent distilled or
purified water rinse. Auger flights and drilling rods used durin the advancement of
the borins will be steam cleaned prior to use on each subsequent boring. The soil
cuttins and decontamination fluids from drilling operations will be retained in »-
gallon drums stored at the site pending the results of the laboratory analyses and
subsequent disposal following regulatory protocol.
c) Laboratory Testing
:- The soil and groundwater samples will be submitted to the analytical laboratory for
analyses on a standard 10-working day turn-around-time. Geocon will instruct the
analytical laboratory to homogenize all the aerial deposited lead soil samples prior to
analvsis.
i Approximately 99 soil samples will be analyzed for total lead following EPA Test
Method 6010.
Approximately 12 soil samples will be analyzed for soil pH following EPA Test
Method 9045.
:- Approximately 16 soil samples and 8 rab groundwater samples will be analyzed for
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8020, and for
total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) and motor oil (TPHmo) by EPA
lethod 801, for volatile oranic compounds (VOCs) by EP. Method 8260, semi-
VOCs bv EPA Method 8270, and for Cv1 17 metals by EPA Method 6010i7000
Series.
:- The analytical laboratory will be instructed to conduct soluble lead analyses via the
Ciry of Belmont — Route 101/Ralsron Ave IC Modifieations 07/06/00
Proposal — PS&E
. .. _ ._ _ _ ..,. t _
