-Gt REPOR T To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager October 16, 2000 Subject Purchase of One Compact Pickup Truck and One Passenger Van Recommendation Approve a resolution authorizing the purchase of one compact pickup truck and one passenger van from Towne Ford of Redwood City, CA in the amount of $44,132.06. Background The Public Works Services Department, in conjunction with the user divisions developed vehicle specifications for one compact pickup truck and one passenger van. The City Clerk advertised the bid invitation with copies of the bid being mailed to eight vendors. The two bids received were opened by the City Clerk on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 and are summarized as follows: S& C Ford San Francisco, CA $39,332.63 Towne Ford Redwood City, CA $44,132.06 The apparent low bidder, S&C Ford did not include the four-door crew cab for the compact pickup truck in their bid and therefore did not meet the vehicle specifications. Alternative These two vehicles are additional vehicles to the City's fleet due to additional and expanded services within the Water Operations Division of the Public Works Services Department and the Kids Club of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The alternative of not purchasing these vehicles would impact both departments since these vehicles are necessary for implementing their additional service plans.
