Now that the Jefferson Avenue Underpass
has been completed, the temporary reflectors and striping are proposed to be removed,
and improvements made with new curbs, installation of irrigation and landscaping, and
other aesthetic features.

The intersection of Broadway/Hopkins was temporarily modified into a "traffic circle" to
facilitate and improve motorists' safety while traveling through this area. It is also
proposed to improve the appearance of this temporary island by constructing
permanent curbs, installing irrigation and landscaping, and other aesthetic
improvements.

John Cahalan Landscape Architects are qualified to perform design services, and they
have submitted a proposal in an amount not to exceed $31,115.00 for furnishing
professional design services for the modification of the existing median islands at the
intersections of Main/Maple, Maple/Middlefield, and Broadway/Hopkins.

Fiscal Impacts
Funds in the amount of $31,115.00 for the design services are available in the FY
00/01 Capital Improvement Program budget under the Capital Projects Fund for the
Main/Maple Traffic Improvements and Broadway/Hopkins Median Islands.

/) ,--"
- / /!/.-dt# /' "v ~
Brian Lee
Senior Civil Engineer I

BL:ss
S/library/reports/brian/J.
