-r¡.3 - ßl.i

provide. This improvement is part of Oracle's Development Agreement, which
was pending due to the cost of the improvements and the'sources of funding.
This issue was resolved by modifying the scope of improvements, which
reduced the cost considerably. The original scope called for the widening of
Marine Parkway to accommodate an additional left turn lane into Oracle East.
After considering the traffic pattern and running an operational analysis, the
City decided that converting one of the three existing through-lanes into the
much needed left-turn lane would satisfy and improve the operation at this
intersection, as originally intended.

The estimated improvement cost went from more than $700,000 to less than
$300,000. This portion of the project will be paid for by Oracle with a matching
amount from GID 1-64. Gas tax funds will also be used for the pavement
overlay.

b.

At Marine Parkway and Twin Dolphin Drive, the efficiency will be improved by
the installation of a right turn lane from Marine Parkway onto Twin Dolphin
Drive. This will ensure that traffic wanting to turn will not block through traffic.
The signals will also be modified to improve efficiency.

c.

At Marine Parkway and Bridge Parkway, an eastbound through lane on Marine
Parkway will also be converted into an additional left turn lane into the
Westport Subdivision. This is similar to the improvements at Oracle East, and
will result in two left turn lanes, which will significantly improve traffic flow at
this intersection during the peak commute hours. The improvements at both
the above-mentioned intersections will be funded by the STID.

At Redwood Shores Parkway and Bridge Parkway, the improvements will
include the widening of Redwood Shores Parkway to accommodate an
additional left-turn lane onto Bridge Parkway. Underground wiring and
foundation work for traffic signals will also be installed. Initially, the additional
turn lane will be painted out and the traffic signal will not be installed. The
improvements will be activated as soon as the anticipated traffic volume
causes unacceptable operations of the existing four-way stop. The STID will
fund all improvements at this intersection, except the traffic signal work which
will be funded by GID 1-64.

d.

2. Trees
All of the proposed improvements are within the public right-of-way. However, since
the roadway will be widened in some areas, a number of trees will be affected.
Some of the trees will be transplanted; however, some cannot be saved. This is
either due to the condition of the tree or the location of the tree. Some trees lean
too much to be transplanted, others exist right over utility lines, making it impractical
to excavate them for transplantation. All trees removed will be replaced with the
largest available stock.

-2-
